The Sublimation Process

The production of wood-effect aluminium relies upon a sophisticated thermal sublimation technique. This comprehensive procedure entails rigorous surface preparation, the application and curing of a polyester powder base coat, and the final sublimation bake.

Following the initial powder coating, the entire aluminium extrusion is encased within a specially printed transfer film. All air is extracted to create a vacuum seal, ensuring absolute contact. The profile is then subjected to heat of 200°C in a sublimation oven, causing the patterned inks to transfer and permanently embed themselves into the powder-coated substrate. A primary architectural advantage of this method is its capacity to flawlessly coat complex two- and three-dimensional profiles, forming an impenetrable bond. Although widely utilised for timber replication on doors, this versatile process is also applied across various industries to simulate stone and granite on metals, plastics, and ceramics.
